WIND ENERGY RESEARCH

EWB, in collaboration with the Community Environmental Council and Santa Barbara City College Center for Sustainability, initiated a Wind Power Pilot Project that researched small wind turbines to quantify and use the wind energy available in the Santa Barbara region.

The group worked to:

  • Raise funds for the purchase of anemometers and urban, low-wind speed turbines.
  • Used anemometers to scout possible locations for turbine(s).
  • Completed research on the best type/style/size of wind turbine for the location.

It is the goal of EWB and CEC to also educate the community about alternative energy so there will be an educational component of the project involved in developing educational material at the site of the wind turbine(s). Additionally, the project would like to design and develop a small wind turbine demonstration unit that can be taken to school and community events to explain wind power and its advantages in this area.
