Local Projects

Building Partnerships

Engineers Without Borders works with local organizations and groups to find sustainable engineering projects that can benefit their local communities.  These projects are meant to train EWB volunteers to become responsible citizens while also benefiting the local community.

Currently there are no local projects. Below are our previous local projects.

  • Baja Housing

EWB's Baja Project partners with a San Diego based NGO to provide housing to disadvantaged families in Baja California.

  • Books for Africa

EWB partners with the non-profit organization Books for Africa to collect books from the UCSB community to alleviate the book famine in Africa.

  • Lighting Project

EWB is partnering with UCSB's Solid State Lighting & Energy Center to design an efficient and inexpensive LED light fixture appropriate for use in Africa, in communities that currently lack power and lighting.
  • Water Testing

To provide clean drinking water to needy communities throughout the world, it is necessary that EWB UCSB prefect its water testing techniques.

  • Wind Energy Research

EWB, in collaboration with the Community Environmental Council and Santa Barbara City College Center for Sustainability, initiated a Wind Power Pilot Project to research and install one (or more) small wind turbine(s) to quantify and use the wind energy available in the Santa Barbara region.
